July 25, 2008
I have known Shirley for almost 20 years.  She is just like you and I.  She is retiring after 30 years of service from the Clark County School District.   She worked her way up from school bus dispatcher to Director, Professional Development Education.  She raised three kids in Nevada.  She cheered on the sidelines of their soccer games, nursed their bumps and bruises, and worked in their school classrooms.  Shirley hasn’t just worked for the Clark County School District, she has lived it.  Like you and I, Shirley is part of Nevada’s story.

Times our tough for our state and our district.  Nevada, like the rest of the nation, is suffering in these slow economic times.  For Nevada’s families this means paying more at the pump, paying more for a gallon of milk, and skipping that summer vacation.  Nevada’s families are working hard to make ends meet.  They have to make tough decisions about that honor their priorities.  The same is true for the State of Nevada.  Tough times mean that we have to make tough decisions.  Just like any family, we need legislators that are willing to sit down at the kitchen table and create a budget that is both fiscally sound and reflects our priorities.  Shirley Breeden will be a Senator that finds common sense solutions, while protecting what matters most to Nevada’s families—education and affordable health care.
Before becoming your state Senator, I spent my life working for Nevada’s children, just like Shirley Breeden.  We owe it to our children to provide them with a foundation for a sound future.  Shirley will make sure our kids have qualified teachers and are given the necessary tools for the education they deserve.  I know Shirley will make the right decisions about the tough Health Care choices.  As a mom and a daughter, she has navigated the health care system in Nevada and knows that we need to do something about it.  She will work to find common sense solutions that guarantee quality care and affordable care, so that Nevada’s families don’t have to work quite as hard to make ends meet.
I am proud to serve as your state Senator for Nevada Senate District 5 and I am working hard to make sure my friend becomes my colleague.  Take Action! Come walk with me for Shirley!
