Cell phone use has sky-rocketed over the past decade. This new technology enables us to be in constant contact with others and we can all admit that they are convenient to own. Unfortunately, with the drastic increase in cell phone use, we have seen another statistic rise: Motorists who use cell phones while driving are much more likely to get into accidents that could cause them serious injury. When I was running for state senate, I promised to make Nevada a safer place and prohibiting a person from texting while driving will do just that.

This bill prohibits a person from using a telephonic device to write, send, or read a text-based communication while operating a motor vehicle except in certain circumstances. A person who violates this provision must pay a fine of $20 for a first offense and a fine of $50 for a second or subsequent offense.
